Richard Epstein Guest Lecturing in My Dreams

February 11th, 2014

I suppose in honor of the recent symposium on Richard Epstein’s new book, last night I had a dream that Richard came to give a guest lecture in my property class. I don’t remember exactly what he was talking about, but it had something to do with bilateral monopolies and the holdout problem, and the need for limited government intervention in such cases, according to the common law (really, what else would he talk about?). He was drawing several Venn Diagrams on the board, but I don’t remember what the intersecting parts represented. The students were (as they should have been) very excited to have Epstein teach the class.

But, for some reason, Richard randomly wandered off in the middle of class to go somewhere else (must’ve been to attend his seminar). So I had to continue the lecture in his place, where he left off. So I started drawing more Venn Diagrams and talking about holdouts. The rest of the lecture went quite well.

Then, in a later dream, I arrived to school to learn that my book shot up to #2 on the NY Times Bestseller list, and #6 on Amazon. There were a slew of reporters asking me questions. Then, of course, my alarm woke me up.
