Mayor Leviathan Opposed To Term Limits For Himself, Not For Others

March 11th, 2013

I could only think of a single ban Mayor Bloomberg is opposed to. In 2008, he opposed New York City term limits, which would have prevented him for running for a third term. Indeed, these term limits prevented Rudy Giuliani from running for re-election shortly after 9/11 (I remember a high school teacher told me at the time that it was the mark of a dictator to change his own term limits). But who cares.

Bloomberg had the City Council change the law to revoke term limits. Why not for Mayor Leviathan? But now that he is leaving Gracie Mansion, it seems that Bloomberg is once again in favor of term limits for Mayor.

This is not a new story, but it underscores Bloomberg’s approach to governance and democracy. Whatever. I like Mayor Leviathan. I think I’ll keep it.
