Morgan Freeman Submits Amicus Brief to Supreme Court In Support of Granting Cert in DOMA and Prop 8 Cases

November 25th, 2012

Well, kind of. Morgan Freeman narrates a video for Human Rights Campaign  that focuses on recent votes for marriage equality “as momentum for further movement  on this issue.”

As Chris Geidner notes, this video comes on the cusp of the Supreme Court’s decision of whether to consider the DOMA or Prop 8 cases:

The ad comes as the Supreme Court is due on Nov. 30 to consider whether it will hear cases in the coming year addressing whether the Defense of Marriage Act or California’s Proposition 8 are constitutional.

Surely Morgan Freeman can help count to four!

Morgan Freeman definitely gained a freckle for explaining this one.

Relatedly, a few months ago Paul Clement participated in a video urging the Court to grant cert in the Rubashkin case. Clement was also Clement’s counsel of record. At the time, Doug Berman wondered whether a “documentary” could impact granting of cert.

Cert was denied in this case.
