According to Ben Wittes, the detainee at Guantanamo who died was Adnan Latif–the very Adnan Latif who was the plaintiff in the controversial D.C. Circuit case Latif v. Obama. In Latif, the D.C. Circuit overturned a district court decision ordering his release.

The Supreme Court denied Latif’s cert petition. There is no further relief for Latif.
