We note, in addition, that marriage does not ever and always make the parentage of a child certain, nor does theabsence of marriage necessarily mean that a child’s parentage is uncertain. An unmarried couple can agree thata child is theirs, while the parentage of a child born duringa marriage may be uncertain.

Read RBG’s opinion for what you will. But methinks this may have some larger import down the road–separating the child-rearing from marriage as separate, not related aspects of society.
