Genius Boston Mayor And Red Sox Fan Wants to use Flame Throwers to Get Rid of Snow

February 4th, 2011

Well this headline is just a tad misleading. I am not referring to Mayor Thomas Menino, but Mayor James Curley, who was the Mayor of Boston (and no doubt a Red Sox fan) in 1948. That winter, he wrote a letter to MIT inquiring about the use of flamethrowers to get rid of snow. Brilliant! What could possibly go wrong with sanitation workers running around Boston with frickin’ flamethrowers?

May I add that the Yankees won the 1947 World Series three months before this letter was written. Ahem. Check out the letter at Murmurs of Earth. H/T Gizmodo.
