Greece’s hostility to entrepreneurs

January 29th, 2011

Check out this excellent and well reasoned piece in the NY Times. It tells the story of the barriers to entry and difficulties for an entrepreneur  to start a new business in Greece. For decades industries grew complacent because of government subsidies and protective barriers. Exports dropped and innovation was stifled. Now that these subsidies are gone, companies have no protection, nothing to export, and like Greece, are screwed. Sadly, the Times does not mention any parallels to our country.
