Cap ATM fees at 50 cents. ATM machines exist because of the high fees banks can charge. Eliminate those fees, and watch ATM machines nationwide go galt. That, or they’ll shift the fee somewhere else.

I have paid ATM fees once or twice in my life, and only when I was in a pinch and my local bank was nowhere close. If you don’t like paying ATM fees, then plan ahead. Or, do what I do. Go to CVS, buy a pack of gum, and get cash back. No charge for debit.

Update: Yes, I am aware ATM stands for automated teller machine, so the word “machine” after ATM is redundant and unnecessary. I also say PIN number. Too bad.
