The General Manager of the Minnesota Vikings declined to pursue former-Viking Randy Moss because, well, he is too old, and the team wants to get younger.
“Randy was a great player,” Spielman said, “but again our focus is more on trying to get a young team.”
If any other employer said this, it would likely be direct evidence of age discrimination. Not even a close call. But for sports, these ageist statements are kosher. So why do discrimination laws not apply to professional athletics?
(I am being absurd on purpose here).
