Overview:

Welcome to Property II. We will be using the Dukeminier, Krier, Alexander, Schill, Property (7th ed.) casebook. In this class, we will cover Adverse Possession, Land Transactions, Title Assurance, the Law of Nuisance, the Law of Servitudes, Zoning, and Takings and Eminent Domain. Section B will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Section D will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:45 p.m. – 7:15 p.m. The assignments and schedules for both classes will be the same.

Exam:

Your final grade will be based entirely on your performance on a three-hour in-class examination. We will hold a review session on the last day of class, November 19, 2012.

The exam will be open book. You can use any resources, including anything on the course web site. But, you cannot seek help from anything or anyone. In other words, you can rely on any document created before the exam was distributed. However, anything new you may obtain after the exam is distributed is off limits.

Attendance and Class Participation:

Please consult the South Texas College of Law Student Handbook’s section on Attendance and Class Participation (pp. 70-71). You will be responsible for keeping track of your own class attendance.

Office Hours

I will hold office hours on Mondays from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., on Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m, and at other times by request. Prior to coming to office hours, please send me an email ([email protected]) in advance, including the time you wish to come, and a short summary of your question (no more than 100 words) so I will ready and prepared for your visit.

Interaction:

I expect that all students will be prepared to engage in our discussions during each session. During class, I will leave open a live chat (known as a backchannel) on the course blog, that will allow you to interact with your colleagues, and with me at the podium, in real time. The livechat will be projected on the screen, so everyone, with or without a laptop, will be able to follow along.

Outside of class, there will be several channels available to interact with me and your colleagues.

First, you can reach me via email at [email protected]. My responsiveness to your emails is directly related to how much effort you put into your question before contacting me. General musings will be met with a similar reply. Thoughtful questions will be met with thoughtful answers. Do your due diligence before asking me.

I will rely on the course blog to post all announcements and materials for class. You will be responsible for checking the course blog prior to class. You can add comments directly to the posts to engage in discussions with your classmates, and with me. On the class blog, to avoid adding to your Google footprint, please sign comments with just your first name and last initial.

You can receive updates about new posts by following the class on Twitter (twitter.com/joshsclasses), liking it on Facebook (facebook.com/Property2Fall2012), subscribing to it via RSS (feeds.feedburner.com/JoshBlackmansBlogPropertyIi-fall2012),  or signing up for a daily email digest of all new posts (feedburner.google.com/fb/a/mailverify?uri=JoshBlackmansBlogPropertyIi-fall2012&loc=en_US). I would recommend that you sign up for the daily emails.
