The Lawyers Thanked In Ted Olson and David Boies’s New Book about Prop 8

June 16th, 2014

I did the “Washington Read” of “Redeeming the Dream: The Case for Marriage Equality” so you won’t have to:

The Perry case itself, and thus this chronicle of the case, was the product of dedicated, outstanding, and selfless assistance from innumerable lawyers and staff members of our respective firms as well as substantial financial contributions from the two firms. At Gibson Dunn, special thanks to firm chairman Kenneth Doran for putting the resources of the entire firm at our disposal and for authorizing it to contribute a large proportion of the legal services pro bono. Extraordinary contributions to the case in the form of outstanding lawyering were made by Theodore J. Boutrous Jr., Christopher Dusseault, Matthew McGill, Ethan Dettmer, Amir Tayrani, Theane Evangelis, Joshua Lipshutz, Enrique Monagas, Abbey Hudson, Sarah Piepmeier, and many more. Special thanks to Ted’s assistant of more than twenty years, Helen Voss, for her time, energy, commitment, and patience during, after, and before normal working hours, as well as weekends. We’re also particularly deeply in debt to all the lawyers and staff in Gibson Dunn’s San Francisco office, who gave us everything we asked— and more—during all phases of the case, at all times of the day and night, but in particular during the trial and various other hearings in San Francisco. At Boies, Schiller & Flexner, special thanks go to Bob Silver, Jeremy Goldman, Steven Holtzman, Ted Uno, Rosanne Baxter, Beko Reblitz-Richardson, Josh Schiller, Meredith Dearborn, Rick Bettan, and Dawn Schneider.
