Unless something funny happened, the Chief will write Bond v. United States

May 5th, 2014

From the November sitting, the only two outstanding opinions were Bond and Greece. Before today, neither Roberts nor Kennedy had written anything from that sitting. Because Kennedy was assigned to write Greece, unless something funky happened, the Chief will write Bond. Though, the authorship count does not always work, it would make sense that the Chief would keep such a it forĀ himself. But, you can be sure that Kennedy will write separately because federalism.

Ginsburg wrote twice from that sitting. So the lead dissent, if I had to guess, will be Kagan, who was not assigned anything for the December sitting.

And if Roberts has Bond, it is looking very likely that Kennedy will have Noel Canning.
