Horse-Slaughter Is Back

December 1st, 2011

I previously blogged that I was not surprised that a ban on horse-slaughter resulted in many unintended consequences. Now it seems that the market for horse-slaughter has been restored. The ban has been deemed a failure:

A June report by the Government Accountability OfficeCongress‘ chief investigative branch, said the ban depressed prices for horses in the U.S. and led to a surge in reports of neglect or abuse as owners of older horses had no way of disposing of them, short of selling them to “foreign slaughtering facilities where U.S. humane slaughtering protections do not apply.”

A law that repeals a law is good.
